JAIN (Deemed-to-be University), Center for Management Studies (CMS) organized a virtual national level Faculty Development Program (FDP) under its webinar series, Gyanidhi. Webinars under the Gyanidhi series are initiatives of the Research and Consultancy Cell of CMS. The sessions are hosted by renowned industry experts and noted academicians. The five-day-long FDP on Emphasizing the Centrality of Marketing to Business took place from September 20 to September 24, 2021.
Day 1
The session began with a welcome address by Sunitha B.K., Assistant Professor and HOD - General Management. The day-one of the webinar was addressed by Dr. Sangeeta Devnathan, Faculty Chairperson and Area Chair – JAIN (Deemed-to-be University), CMS Business School. Dr. Sangeeta conferred her views on the topic and explained that there is no prototype of a good marketer. Adding to the insights, the speaker addressed a commonly asked question; is marketing as a function so multifaceted that every skill type has a role in it? She presented a clear mind map for the five-day program. The session included an interactive Q&A round. The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Roopa K. V., Assistant Professor – Marketing.
Day 2
The session began with an address note by Professor Sunitha B. K., followed by Dr. Sangeeta Devnatha’s speech. Dr. Sangeeta offered a summary of day one. Dr. Sangeeta spoke about the significance of centrality, the role of marketing, getting new customers and retaining existing ones, her experiences in marketing, types of students, and their ideas. She created a room for discussion and heard the points and views of the participants, making the session interactive and engaging. The session included an interactive Q&A round. Dr. Roopa K. Day 3
The session began with a welcome address by Ms. Vyshnavi A., Assistant Professor – Finance. On day three, Dr. Sangeeta, after providing the summary of day one and day two, spoke about marketing the center and the circle. Her speech remained focused on marketing encompassing all aspects of business, views of students on marketing and sales, skills sought by industries, common comments from colleagues from other functional areas, things that bother marketing faculty, the paradoxes, negating the paradoxes, and meaning of marketing. She concluded the address with a short informative video. The session also included an interactive Q&A round. Ms. Vyshnavi A. proposed the vote of thanks.
Day 4
Dr. Sangeeta Devnathan began the discussion by summarizing the information she had presented over the three preceding sessions of FDP. She highlighted the science underlying the art. She addressed this subject with two case studies. Using consumer insights, the first case study demonstrated how the science of numbers meets creativity. The second case study discussed marketing ROI, experimental design science, and financial calculations in the context of the art of communication. The session concluded with a Q&A session.
Day 5
On the fifth and final day, Dr. Sangeeta summarized the four previous FDP sessions. She also expressed her views on a very interesting topic, the modern marketer. She highlighted the reasons that make marketing a less favorable choice for some. She showed the world’s most influential CMOs by taking references from the Forbes website which also helped the participants to understand the concept of modern marketing. Dr. Sangeeta concluded the session with some thought-provoking questions. Dr. Roopa K. V. proposed the vote of thanks.
