Harohalli, 2 August 2024: A total of 46 students from the BBA Corporate – 1B section participated in an industrial field visit to the Dairy Day Ice Cream Factory located in the Harohalli Industrial Area on 2 August 2024. Organised as part of their experiential learning curriculum, the visit aimed to enhance students’ understanding of large-scale food production systems, quality assurance practices, and the operational frameworks driving the modern food manufacturing industry.
Upon arrival, the students were warmly received by the factory staff, who provided an overview of Dairy Day’s history, mission, and diverse product portfolio. The visit began with a guided tour of the production plant, where students observed each stage of the ice cream manufacturing process—from raw material handling and mixing to pasteurisation, homogenisation, freezing, and packaging. They gained practical insights into the sophisticated machinery used in the production line, including pasteurisers, homogenisers, and continuous freezers, which ensure consistency, efficiency, and product safety.
The factory personnel highlighted Dairy Day’s rigorous quality control measures and hygiene protocols, underscoring their importance in maintaining high product standards within the food industry. Students further explored the company’s Research and Development (R&D) department, where they learned about the creation of new flavours, ongoing product innovation, and the role of consumer feedback in shaping market offerings.
An engaging question-and-answer session enabled students to interact with industry professionals and deepen their understanding of production technology, supply chain logistics, and marketing strategies in the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector. The visit concluded with a complimentary tasting session featuring Dairy Day’s strawberry ice cream, allowing students to appreciate the final product of the processes they had witnessed firsthand.
Reflecting on the significance of the visit, Dr C. Sharmila Rao, Class Teacher, remarked, “This industrial visit offered our students a meaningful platform to connect theoretical concepts with real-world industrial operations. Observing the complete production cycle and interacting with professionals has enriched their learning experience and broadened their perspective on food industry dynamics.”
The visit proved to be an invaluable educational experience, reinforcing classroom learning and strengthening students’ industry readiness. The University remains committed to facilitating such immersive learning opportunities, with further industrial visits and field engagements planned for the forthcoming academic year.
